7 Things You Need to Know If You Love Someone Who Struggles with Addiction

  • 14th Street Y 344 East 14th Street New York, NY, 10003 United States (map)

Facilitated by Julie Merberg

Loving someone with a substance use disorder can be heartbreaking, confusing, and deeply isolating — but you don’t have to navigate it alone.

In this interactive session, parent coach and author Julie Merberg offers a compassionate, evidence-based framework for family support, rooted in her own lived experience as a mother of four, one of whom is in recovery.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Understand the why behind substance use

  • Communicate with curiosity instead of criticism

  • Support healthy behaviors while setting boundaries

  • Rebuild connection without enabling

  • And apply tools that actually help — for you and your loved one

This evening is for anyone in a caregiving role — parent, partner, sibling, friend — who wants to show up with love and effectiveness. Expect honest conversation, practical strategies, and space to reflect.

Please come with questions and an open mind.
